Major Works and Insurance Manager

What is your role at tlc?

My role within the firm is managing larger scale projects known as qualifying works; this can include anything from full external repairs and redecorations, roof renewals, lift replacements, internal refurbishment and anywhere in between. Within the qualifying works role health and safety compliance is also essential and having the opportunity identify and rectify issues can be rewarding. It doesn’t stop there as the final part of my role is Insurance Manager which entails all insurance matters being reviewed by myself be it the handling of an insurance claim itself or simply placing cover.

What is your background?

My family background is and probably always be trade work. My grandad is somehow still a decorator despite his knees giving way, my dad owns a construction company specialising in loft conversions and building development and then my two brothers being qualified carpenters. Although I didn’t follow the path of a tradesman having each of them around, climbing scaffolds as a child, watching, asking questions and earning pocket money as a “labourer” over school holidays gave me a baseline understanding of how things come together from a practical aspect which has been key to my role.

What values drive you?

A question many may say they struggle to answer and whilst some might not see it as a value as such I’m going to go with “attention to detail”.

What are your objectives for tlc over the next 12 months?

Foresight; with specific reference to qualifying works 12 months and beyond. Planning projects as early as possible is key to being able to undertake them when the time is right whether that be financially, time of year or simply convenience to clients. Our ability to advise the client on expectations is imperative to the role we have been awarded and that little bit of hand holding can go a long way to developing long lasting relationships.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?

The question pretty much answers itself – being outside! Living in Hertfordshire makes finding time to be outdoors very easy and with a growing family I have even more of an excuse to try and get the youngsters spending time out there.

What is your favourite song?

Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane

What is one thing that might surprise people about you?

Apparently my artistic skill when it comes to carving pumpkins is something that people do not expect.

If you could be any animal, what would you be?

Wild Dog.

What are three things on your bucket list?

Completed it!
